DNA sensing in cardiovascular diseases

Inflammation plays a key role in the pathogenesis of cardiovascular disease. Accumulating evidence has implicated the cGAS-STING pathway, which recognizes DNA fragments to induce inflammatory responses, in this process. In this review paper, we discuss the current understanding on the roles of self-DNA and the cGAS-STING pathway in the pathophysiology of cardiovascular diseases, including our works, and the therapeutic potential of targeting this pathway. https://www.doi.org/10.1172/JCI204551
